Royalty-free music in your shop

If you want to play music in your public space, you have to pay Buma/Stemra and Sena fees for it. After all, everyone involved in making a song is entitled to a fee when that song is played in your space. As a business, it is of course not feasible to pay all the separate parties for each song individually. That is why businesses pay for these rights to Buma and Sena, which manage the rights of music makers. Composers, lyricists and music publishers are paid through Buma, and Sena pays a fee to musicians and producers. For a business, the cost of these rights can add up considerably. That is why some entrepreneurs opt for royalty-free music that they find online themselves. However, this carries a big risk, because the laws on music rights are extremely strict.
